A Little Bit of History... lit
Paul and Emma Stoddard, a husband and wife team who have been in Fredericksburg 20+ years have dreamt of opening their own business together for years. Paul, long time owner of the Sunken Well Tavern has years of experience in both restaurant ownership and culinary craft. Emma works as a Realtor but has an extensive background in baking and restaurant management. Emma grew up in NYC and recalls fond memories of growing up eating her Jewish grandmothers cooking, and grabbing mouth watering sandwiches from local delis. Paul spent many years in Japan as a young man and was influenced with the culinary environment there.
The name Galvin's is a rebirth of Emma's great grandfathers bar in Jersey City in the early 1900s, Martin Galvin's Cafe. During Prohibition the bar was converted to a speakeasy behind an ice cream shop. Paul and Emma loved the history and familial ties to the name and concept so have married those ideas together to bring you Galvin's Delicatessen (and speakeasy).
We are fortunate to have found the location at 216 & 218 William St. and have worked hard to convert it into our dream location. We hope you come visit and enjoy!
